When you feel like you don't have time to prepare a snack or something healthy to eat and see yourself going for the convenience foods - stop and come back to this post. Here are two examples of healthy, delicious and super easy snacks that will keep you fuelled for hours and yet won't weight you down.
You can enjoy these and many more healthy snacks between meals to keep your energy levels up and your brain focused. The thing to remember here is to keep snacks small even though they are very tasty. If you still feel hungry after munching on a pot of overnight oats with berries and seeds, reach for a warming cup of herbal tea. The warm tea will also help you refocus and settle your stomach.
Here's a couple of healthy and easy snacks to try between your main meals and stay tuned for more!
Making your own overnight oats is really simple and innovative. Just add 1 or 1,5 desilitres of oats into a jar of your choosing, add same amount of milk (oat, almond, coconut or hemp milk work magnificently) or water and put in the fridge overnight.
In the morning you can add on top whatever you feel like having or have available. Berries work amazingly, frozen, fresh or powdered. Also banana and peanut butter taste wonderful together with the oats. Only sky is the limit with this breakfast wonder. If you feel like having something decadent in the morning, try soaking your oats in coconut milk overnight, add some cinnamon, allspice and apple cubes (or/and splash of apple juice).
Banana and a spoonful of nut butter
Munching on half a banana and a spoonful of nut butter will provide you with a balance of good fats and carbohydrates that will satisfy the hunger and make sure you stay full until your mealtime.
Bananas are a low GI food and proper nut butter has a lot to offer in terms of protein, good fats (meaning unsaturated fats) and minerals.
When buying your nut butters, just be sure to check the ingredients list on your chosen nut butter. I always choose the Meridian nut butters as they don't put anything nasty into their products, just pure nuts with skin on. Enjoy!
