Nutrition Beyond the Bump

Postnatal and family nutrition

Why it's really important to eat healthy after giving birth - and how I can help you get there.

Healthy You

4th trimester diet check

During pregnancy your body is completely devoted to your baby, but after the baby arrives, taking the time to be mindful of your own nutrition isn’t self indulgent, it’s necessary!

You might have heard that the three months following the birth, are known as the ‘fourth-trimester’ period. During this time, it's extremely important to eat well - this will enable you to essentially recover from birth, refill nutrient stores that might have been diminished during pregnancy as well as balance out fluctuating hormones.

All of this is even more crucial if you are breastfeeding your baby, as the quality and quantity of milk does depend on your health and the food you eat every day. And even if you are not breastfeeding, due to any reason, you are still looking after a precious little human, which takes up all available energy - so taking care of you is crucial, so you can take care of your baby.

Why it's really important for YOU to eat healthy after having a baby?

  • to allow your body to recover after birth

  • refill empty nutrient stores in the body

  • balance out fluctuating hormones

  • maintain a balanced blood sugar

  • have more energy to look after baby and you

  • ensure breast milk is as nutritious as possible (if nursing)

  • each body is different and has different needs

  • getting back to pre-pregnancy weight safely and sustainably

Well balanced nutrition gives you your energy back

Life with a newborn is tiring... okay, exhausting! The lack of sleep, fluctuating hormones, anxiety and even depression - no wonder so many women struggle to cope in the early days of motherhood. By eating the right foods, you can help balance your mood and hormones as well as feeling like YOUR old self a bit. With a practical and individualised postnatal nutrition plan, you will be able to safely return to your pre-pregnancy weight while safeguarding and replenishing the nutritional reserves in your body so you feel more in control and can start feeling a bit more balanced.

Personally, after having my first child, I remember feeling lost in the tiredness and the new responsibilities, with no energy to spare. Even with all the information and knowledge I have of healthy diets and proper nutrition, what a new mum needs is support and a plan to follow. Having a plan made all the difference.

Now let me help you have a clear plan to follow, so you can feel your best and just enjoy being a mum.

Postnatal Nutrition Coaching with me

In our sessions, we will go your current situation in detail and then from this, create a practical yet simple plan for you to follow. This plan will be amended along the way to create sustainable changes that lead to positive results.

During our consultations, we will also be planning a menu fit for the whole family. I would suggest, if possible, to include your partner in the first consultation, so that we can create a plan that works for you as a family.

As a new mother I know how time consuming looking after a baby is and how little time you have for anything else. With a professional coach at your side, you can save time, money and energy for the most important things in your life. By working with me, you will not only learn how to eat healthy, but also discover a way to improve your whole family's long-term wellbeing. If you've just had your baby, weaning and eating together as a family seem like far off prospects, but those first months fly by very quickly and before you know it, you find yourself worrying about feeding your little person with solid foods for the first time... by focusing on your own healthy diet first, you can then apply those principles easily to feeding the whole family.

Why working with me is worth the investment in time and money?

I am a mother to our 2 year old toddler so I understand what you're going through on a personal level. I'm also trained and experienced in the special requirements of the pre- and postnatal periods.

My coaching methods are inspiring and positive - with me, you'll be positively accountable for the choices you make and I will be there to support you with the questions and doubts that arise during this magical but challenging time in your life. Mother Breastfeeding Baby

Good nutrition aids breast feeding

The quality and even quantity of your breastmilk does depend on your own health and wellbeing, as well as the food choices you make each day. Some women find breastfeeding more difficult than others, and for some it's a source of stress, anxiety and frustration - while also providing that feeling of bonding like no other.

Having personal nutritional support will ensure you can provide your body with all it needs to produce top quality breast milk for your baby. The beginning of the journey into motherhood is a time when we really need the village around us - for support, advice and information we can count on.

Balanced and nutritious

As the new job can be very tiring and energy depleting - while also being very fulfilling and magical - it's important to remember to eat regularly. Aim to go for foods that maintain balanced blood sugar levels in the body. By choosing to eat blood sugar balancing foods, you will also be aiding your postnatal mood and energy levels. When the blood sugar fluctuates, feelings of anxiety and depression are heightened.

Nutritious meal will not only make you have more energy and refilled nutrient stores, but also inspire you to look after yourself more - once you get started, you can easily get hooked on the feeling.

A practical and tailored nutrition plan can help you to safely rebalance your body while replenishing your reserves so you can feel your best and enjoy this wonderful time.
